Violent extremism threatening Africa’s democratic gains – Tinubu

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is worried about violent extremism. He also fears unconstitutional changes in West Africa. These issues threaten the region's democratic progress.

Tinubu's message was shared at ECOWAS's 50th anniversary launch in Accra. Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Biance Odumegwu-Ojukwu, emphasized the need for collective action.

As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, Tinubu committed to regional stability. He urged member states to cooperate and uphold ECOWAS Treaty principles.

"Our region faces new threats like violent extremism and climate change," Tinubu said. "Unconstitutional changes seriously threaten our hard-earned democratic gains."

Dignitaries at the event included former Ghanaian Presidents John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Other attendees were ministers, members of parliament, students, and representatives from various countries.
