Viral kidnapping case: Two victims alive and safe – Police

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the rescue of two kidnapped women. They were recently seen in a viral video. The women are now safe in Nigeria.

ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi spoke on Citi Prime News on May 2. She said the rescue resulted from a coordinated operation between Ghanaian and Nigerian security forces. "We’ve been able to rescue the two ladies. They are alive and safe," she stated.

The operation began last week after reports of the abduction surfaced. A special task force was formed by Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. This team included personnel from various departments, such as CID and Cybercrime Unit.

"We worked on this case throughout last week," ACP Ansah-Akrofi explained. She credited the National Signals Bureau for helping locate the victims.

Once it was confirmed they were in Nigeria, IGP Dampare contacted his Nigerian counterpart. The response was swift, leading to a joint operation.

This operation resulted in three arrests in Nigeria and five in Ghana. It is part of a broader investigation into a transnational kidnapping ring. The police say investigations are ongoing and will provide further updates soon.
