Volta NDC grassroots warn of apathy in 2028 over appointment snubs

The grassroots of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are concerned. They warn of voter apathy in the Volta Region for the 2028 elections. This is due to President Mahama's neglect in appointing regional NDC Executives and other key figures.

They believe that the John Mahama-led administration has not rewarded their contributions. This has left many party members feeling disgruntled.

At a press conference in Ho, Edmond Amos Ameamu spoke on behalf of the New Voter Forum. He noted that while some people from Volta have been appointed, they lack ties to the local party. These individuals did not support the NDC during the 2024 elections.

Mr. Ameamu warned that ignoring local NDC stalwarts could harm the party’s future. He supported a call from the Volta Renaissance Forum for President Mahama to appoint loyal party members.

He stated, “We believe this will motivate our base and prevent voter apathy.” He criticized the appointment of an outsider as acting Volta Regional Director of NHIS. He called it “a slap in the face” for those who worked hard for victory.

“The grassroots have been patient despite this neglect,” he said. However, he added they would not accept outsiders who did not help win elections.

Mr. Ameamu urged party leaders to meet with stakeholders to address these issues. He suggested collaboration between party leadership and local government to ensure NDC activists are appointed.

He warned that failure to act could lead to protests or demonstrations in coming weeks. Additionally, he called on local leaders to create job opportunities for supporters.

He issued a one-week ultimatum for their concerns to be addressed, especially regarding the NHIS appointment reversal. He emphasized that failure to respond would lead them to take civil action against this decision.
