Lariba Abudu, MP for Walewale, has withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries after the contest was nullified due to a ballot-snatching incident.
The Electoral Commission (EC) annulled the election after ballots were stolen during sorting and counting. Abudu, in a statement, said her decision to withdraw was for the "greater good" of the party.
The NPP's National Executive Committee planned to meet on September 11, 2024, to resolve the issue.
The suspect responsible for the ballot theft, Kamara Bawah, has been arrested, and security has been increased in the area.
