Ghana’s Energy and Green Transitions Minister, John Jinapor, has revealed that some power producers have shut down their plants due to the government's failure to meet payment obligations.

Speaking at the National Economic Dialogue in Accra, Jinapor stressed the urgent need to shift from liquid fuels to gas for power generation.

He noted that the country’s reliance on liquid fuels is unsustainable, with bills exceeding 1 billion cedis this year alone.

Jinapor called for immediate investment in gas processing to reduce costs and ensure energy security, emphasizing that a gas processing plant could save the country about 600 million cedis annually.

He also lamented the failure to utilize available gas resources, urging for the construction of a gas processing plant to cut operational costs.
