Weija-Gbawe MP demands immediate action on persistent power outages

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the MP for Weija-Gbawe, has made a strong appeal. He urged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), GRIDCo, and the Ministry of Energy to act quickly. The constituency is facing ongoing power outages.

In a statement on April 17, he expressed deep concern. The unannounced power cuts, known as dumsor, have affected communities for months. These outages happen without any prior notice from ECG or GRIDCo.

This lack of communication causes severe disruptions. Households, healthcare facilities, schools, and businesses are all impacted.

Shaib warned that unreliable power supply has serious consequences. It undermines economic activity and endangers lives. Critical services in the constituency are also compromised.

He acknowledged that this power crisis is nationwide but highlighted Weija-Gbawe's struggles. Some areas have faced continuous outages lasting over four days or more.

Despite meetings with ECG officials, there has been no meaningful progress. Residents continue to suffer from unreliable electricity supply despite assurances from GRIDCo.

Shaib emphasized the urgency of resolving this issue immediately. He called for decisive measures to ensure reliable power supply for his constituents. His appeal was “respectful but firm,” as he believes the people deserve better service.
