Wonder Madilo, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, is worried. He spoke about the financial struggles faced by Ghanaian students abroad on government scholarships. The delay in stipend payments is "frightening," he said.
Madilo appeared on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on May 20. He pointed out that many scholarship beneficiaries are suffering due to the government's failure to meet its financial commitments. This situation threatens their academic progress and well-being.
Many students are stranded overseas without enough support. Madilo emphasized that scholarships should align with developmental goals. He urged the government to address these challenges quickly.
He noted that fourteen months without stipends and allowances is alarming. Madilo believes the NDC government can act swiftly but also called for reforms in the system.
His comments come as the Coalition of Ghanaian Scholars Abroad plans a protest. This peaceful demonstration is set for Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The group includes students from Europe, North America, and Asia.
They feel neglected after repeated appeals to the government went unanswered. Their statement highlights that this protest demands overdue payments and calls for dignity and accountability.
