Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has withdrawn his legal challenge against strict bail conditions.
His lawyers filed a motion on May 30, 2025. They called the GH¢50 million bail “excessive.” The hearing was set for June 3 but was canceled when his team withdrew the application on June 2.
Wontumi’s lawyers argued that the bail amount was disproportionate. They claimed it could delay his release and keep him in custody without conviction.
He has been in custody since May 28. His arrest followed serious allegations of fraud and money laundering. Sources say he was under surveillance before his arrest.
The situation surrounding Wontumi is becoming more complex. Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai revealed investigators are exploring new leads. These leads may connect him to an international organized crime syndicate.
This withdrawal raises questions about Wontumi's future strategy. Is it a tactical retreat or a sign of bigger issues ahead?
For now, Chairman Wontumi remains in EOCO custody. The political implications of his case continue to grow.
