Wontumi granted EOCO bail, but unable to meet bail conditions-Lawyer

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, has been granted bail. This follows his arrest at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

His lawyer, Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed this news on Neat FM. He stated that bail was granted late Tuesday night. However, they could not meet the bail conditions in time. As a result, Chairman Wontumi spent the night in custody.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi mentioned that Chairman Wontumi fell ill during interrogation by EOCO. He is now receiving medical care at a hospital under EOCO's supervision. The lawyer dismissed claims that his client was mistreated by EOCO officers.

He praised EOCO for their professionalism throughout the process. He specifically commended Mr. Raymond Archer, EOCO's Executive Director, for his fairness and professionalism.

Mr. Appiah-Kubi is also a former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North Constituency. He said his team will start meeting the bail conditions today to secure Chairman Wontumi's release.
