Enoch Afoakwa is part of the legal team for Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP. Afoakwa stated that Wontumi has a strong defense against any charges.
On June 2, Wontumi's legal team withdrew a motion regarding his bail. This motion sought to review his GH¢50 million bail condition. It was originally filed on May 30 and set for hearing on June 3. However, it was withdrawn one day before the hearing.
Wontumi was granted bail on May 28 with two sureties. His lawyers confirmed that they met all bail conditions by May 30. Despite this, his release was delayed due to the pending motion for review. His lawyers claimed this motion was filed without Wontumi's consent.
After extensive legal efforts, Wontumi’s lawyers secured his release from detention. In an interview with Channel One Newsroom, Afoakwa discussed Wontumi's situation after his release on June 2. He mentioned that the legal team is waiting for formal charges to respond appropriately.
Afoakwa emphasized that every reasonable person facing allegations has a defense. He stated they are monitoring developments closely and will act once charges are officially filed. "We await the official charge from law enforcement," he said, indicating their next steps depend on that information.
