Wrong is wrong, no matter the party – Mary Addah weighs in on Sammy Gyamfi and Agradaa saga

Mary Addah, Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), has a message for President John Mahama. She urges him to show real commitment to ethical leadership. This comes amid controversy involving NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi.

Gyamfi was recently seen in a viral video giving money to Nana Agradaa, a controversial religious figure.

On the Asaase Breakfast Show, Addah stressed that decisive action is needed. Silence or political maneuvering will not suffice for a president focused on accountability and reform.

“We need clear communication and no tolerance for misconduct,” she said. “The President must act to uphold his claimed values.”

Addah pointed out that Mahama’s leadership is under scrutiny due to this incident. It reflects a broader culture of unchecked political behavior.

“This presidency is legacy-driven,” she noted. “We expect consistency in addressing ethical lapses.”

She also raised concerns about the normalization of unexplained political generosity.

“We praise politicians for giving large sums at funerals and events,” she said. “But how do their incomes justify such spending? Without accountability, we risk normalizing corruption as generosity.”

Addah emphasized that this issue should not be viewed through partisan lenses. “Wrong is wrong—regardless of party affiliation,” she stated. “If the NDC acts decisively, it will gain public trust.”
