You don’t embark on a 'Thank You Tour' after a colossal defeat – Amoako Baah tells NPP

Political scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He spoke about their planned "Thank You Tour" after losing the 2024 elections.

In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, he questioned the tour's appropriateness. He described the NPP's defeat as a "colossal defeat" in both presidential and parliamentary elections.

Dr. Amoako Baah said, “When you lose this colossally, you don't go on a Thank You Tour.” He added, “No, thank you for what? For not voting for me?”

He suggested that instead of thanking supporters, the party should apologize. “You say, ‘Sorry, forgive me,’” he insisted.

His comments came shortly after the NPP launched its Thank You Tour in Accra. The tour will be led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's 2024 presidential candidate.

The tour starts on Saturday, April 26. Party leaders will travel across the country to appreciate their supporters.

Dr. Bawumia lost to John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a landslide victory. The NPP also lost key parliamentary seats during these elections.

Dr. Amoako Baah has been a vocal critic of the NPP. He has called for serious introspection and reform within the party after its electoral losses.

However, NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah defended the tour's purpose. He stated it aims to reorganize party members following their defeat.

Mr. Ahiagbah attributed the loss to low voter turnout among supporters. He explained that the tour is meant to address mistakes and rebuild enthusiasm within the party.

He said, “This thank you tour is designed to governise the party and reignite our passion.”
