You’re blocking real emergencies – GNFS urges public to stop prank calls

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is warning about prank calls. These calls are disrupting emergency helplines. They hinder the service's ability to respond to real emergencies.

On May 9, ADO 1 Derrick Elorm Adzokpa spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily. He expressed concern over how prank calls affect their operations. “The prank calls are killing us,” he said.

Adzokpa highlighted that these calls can cost lives. Although public awareness has improved, the issue remains serious. “People are now understanding the effects and implications of these calls,” he noted.

He explained how prank calls can block help for those in need. When someone dials 112 or 192 and cannot get through, it may be due to a prank call. This situation can prevent someone with a real emergency from receiving urgent assistance.

To combat this problem, Adzokpa urged the public to use alternative emergency numbers. He reassured everyone that they are ready to respond promptly. “The moment you call this number, you will get someone to speak to,” he said.

The alternative numbers provided by GNFS are: 0302772446 and 0299340383.
