Your silence on Sedina Tamakloe is damaging – Barker-Vormawor warns gov’t

Osagyefo Oliver Barker-Vormawor, convener of #FixTheCountry, has criticized Ghana’s Attorney-General. He demands quick action on the extradition of Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu.

Tamakloe-Attionu was convicted in absentia for embezzling state funds. Barker-Vormawor questioned the government's silence on this matter. He warned that it could harm public confidence in justice.

“The Attorney-General must seek her extradition,” he stated. “If not, he should explain why her conviction is defective.” He emphasized that silence could undermine the government’s credibility.

Madam Tamakloe-Attionu led the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). She was found guilty on 78 counts, including theft and money laundering. The court sentenced her to 10 years in prison.

Her former Chief Operating Officer, Daniel Axim, received a five-year sentence. The trial uncovered serious financial irregularities caused by both officials. The court determined they caused significant loss to the state.

Unlike Axim, Tamakloe-Attionu did not attend the trial. She had permission to travel for medical reasons but did not return. Following this, the High Court issued a warrant for her arrest.

Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah previously stated that the government is committed to extraditing her. However, there have been no updates on her extradition process yet. Critics like Barker-Vormawor continue to demand answers.
