Private lawyer Gideon Tettey Tetteh has stated that court proceedings via Zoom are valid under Ghanaian law. He believes this method should be used in the case against former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on Adwenekasa with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Original TV, Tetteh highlighted that Ghana's legal framework now supports digital trials. This change allows for hearings without physical appearances in some cases.
“If the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) thinks Ofori-Atta committed a crime, they can use digital prosecution,” he explained. “Zoom court sessions are legal and have been used before. There’s no reason not to proceed if there is enough evidence.”
His remarks come as public interest grows around the OSP's efforts to question Ofori-Atta. Although he has not been formally charged, he is considered a person of interest.
The OSP has faced challenges in getting Ofori-Atta’s cooperation. However, Tetteh argues that legal options like virtual appearances allow progress without delay.
“The law has evolved,” he said. “We cannot rely only on physical presence in court. Justice must adapt to technology.”
