A tragic road accident occurred at Amanase, near Suhum. It happened early Monday morning and claimed 11 lives.
The collision took place around 5:00 AM on the Accra-Kumasi Highway. A fuel tanker with registration number GR 1300-16 was involved. A Sprinter bus registered GW 6510-23 was also part of the crash.
The Sprinter bus was heading to Kumasi when the accident happened. Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker veered off its lane. The driver is suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The tanker crashed head-on into the Sprinter bus. This resulted in the instant death of 11 passengers.
ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel confirmed the incident. He is the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in Suhum Municipality. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find multiple fatalities and many injured victims.
Some injured passengers were in critical condition. They were rushed to Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Efforts are underway to inform families of the victims and care for survivors.
