Thirteen people have been arrested in a special anti-galamsey operation. This operation took place on April 21, 2025, at Aboifie, near Samreboï in the Western Region.
The Ghana Police Service conducted the operation based on credible intelligence. It is part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining activities in the area.
During the search, security personnel found two pump-action shotguns and one single-barrel gun. These firearms were hidden inside the seized excavators.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects remain in police custody. Authorities aim to protect Ghana's natural resources and enforce laws against illegal mining.
Preliminary investigations show that the excavators were operating within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. This area is protected and had been raided just a day earlier.
Additional arrests and equipment seizures may occur as operations continue in the region.
