A 24-year-old farmer, Wisabu Kwame, has been remanded for two weeks. This follows the tragic death of his five-year-old daughter.
The incident happened on April 27, 2025, in Pawa. This community is located in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region.
Kwame was arrested after authorities learned about the child's injuries. Police prosecutor Detective Bright Nkansah presented details to the court. He described the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.
On that day, Kwame and his daughter were sleeping on a farm near Keri. He left to fetch food ingredients from a nearby community. When he returned, he found that his daughter had defecated on herself.
In anger, Wisabu Kwame reportedly beat her until she lost consciousness. He then took her to a nearby CHPS compound at Keri. Later, she was referred to Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital for treatment.
Sadly, medical staff could not save her life, and she was pronounced dead. Reports indicate that she had severe injuries consistent with physical abuse.
Hospital authorities reported the case to police. This led to Kwame's arrest and murder charges against him.
During court proceedings, Magistrate George Valentine Arhine presided over the case. The judge stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the child's death. He noted that remanding Kwame would allow law enforcement to gather more evidence.
