Staff of the University of Ghana and nearby residents are resisting eviction by an unknown private contractor after a demolition of their homes by land guards, in the presence of police, early Sunday.

Benjamin Nkumsah, Chairman of the University of Ghana Branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), called the eviction unlawful and demanded the process be halted.

Nkumsah urged the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, to intervene, demanding respect for their rights and clarity on the private contractor's identity and the demolition's legitimacy.

Residents vow to resist further eviction attempts.
