Achimota-Ofankor underpass remains safe for road users – GHA

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) says the Achimota-Ofankor underpass is safe. This is despite some damage to the retaining wall.

On Wednesday, the GHA issued a statement. They assured the public that repairs would start soon. The underpass is located near Tantra Hill in Accra.

This statement followed a viral video from Buzstopboys. The video showed damage to parts of the road's reinforcement walls.

An assessment by engineers found spalling on a localized area of the wall. This has exposed rebars, which have been stolen by thieves.

The GHA reassured everyone that the underpass is structurally sound and safe. They plan to carry out repairs soon to prevent further damage.

The GHA condemned vandalism and urged people not to tamper with public infrastructure. They emphasized that tampering is a criminal offense under Road Traffic Regulations, 2012.

They encouraged residents and commuters to be vigilant. Anyone noticing suspicious activities should report them to local police or the GHA's Public Affairs Division.

The TikTok video from Buzstopboys received mixed reactions from road users. Many criticized the damage allegedly caused by scrap dealers.
