Irene Naa Torshie Addo, former MP for Tema West, has donated 100,000 cedis. This donation is for victims of the Adum Blue Light Market fire.
The donation was made through the Rene Addo Foundation.
Addo stated, "Though the NPP has been here, I had to support my women." She emphasized that this support is very necessary.
In March, a fire devastated the Adum Blue Light Market. It destroyed the wares of thousands of traders.
Over 2,900 traders were affected by this inferno. Among them, 1,500 people cannot feed themselves and need food support.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. However, Addo believes most market fires are due to electrical faults and poor wiring materials.
She advocates for building fire resilience into the market's reconstruction plans.
"Most fires come from electrical issues," she explained. "Some electricians use incorrect materials or do poor work."
Many affected individuals did not have insurance coverage. As a result, they must seek loans and help to restart their businesses.
Addo stresses the importance of insurance education.
"If you had insurance, you could rely on it for support," she said. "It's not too late; I will return to discuss this further."
