Ashanti ICGC ‘Life Walk’ continues to make impact in mental health

The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in the Ashanti Region is making a significant impact on mental health. They raise money annually to support the psychiatric unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

Members of the church participate in the ‘Life Walk’ each year. This event aims to raise funds and awareness for mental health initiatives.

Rev. Sylvanus Sowah-Odotei, the Regional Overseer, led this year's walk. He was joined by Dr. John Paul Omuojine, head of the Psychiatry Unit at KATH, and other specialists.

This year’s Life Walk was championed by Pastor Mensa Otabil, the General Overseer. It attracted many congregants, health advocates, and well-wishers.

Participants wore branded T-shirts as they walked through Kwadaso. They started at Trinity Temple Church and covered 12 kilometers together.

The “Life Walk” has become more than just a church event. It now serves as a regional movement highlighting the need for mental health support in Ghana.

After the walk and aerobics session, Rev. Sowah-Odotei thanked everyone for their participation. He appreciated the support from other pastors who prioritized this event.

He emphasized that mental health affects individuals, families, and communities. "This walk shows our commitment to making a difference," he said.

Rev. Sowah-Odotei encouraged members to continue advocating for mental health beyond this event. "The Life Walk is a declaration of hope and healing," he added.

Dr. John Paul Omuojine praised ICGC's support for mental health in Ghana. He highlighted that good mental health helps people cope with daily stress and achieve their potential.

He noted that poor mental health can lead to issues like depression and anxiety. Dr. Omuojine commended ICGC for reducing stigma around seeking help from professionals.
