Residents of six communities in Asuogyaman District took to the streets of Akosombo on February 5, 2025, protesting against the Volta River Authority (VRA) over what they describe as exorbitant electricity bills.

The affected communities, including Combine, Tusker, and Mangoase Afabeng, claim accumulated bills range from GHC 1,000 to over GHC 10,000, leading to power disconnections that have impacted homes and businesses.

Protest leader Michael Worlanyo attributed the issue to the introduction of new meters, which residents say have drastically increased costs.

The demonstrators are demanding a flexible payment plan, warning of larger protests if their concerns are not addressed.

They have urged VRA to engage with them to find a solution.
