Builsa North MCE commends president's ‘Tree for Life’ initiative

The Municipal Chief Executive for Builsa North, Solomon Akogti, praised President John Dramani Mahama’s 'Tree for Life Restoration Initiative.' He called it a visionary response to environmental degradation and climate change.

Mr. Akogti expressed concern about tree cover loss and declining soil fertility. He noted that recurring droughts have led to food insecurity and eroded livelihoods.

Despite these challenges, he remains hopeful. He believes the 'Tree for Life Initiative' can benefit future generations.

He spoke at a ceremony in Sandema. Mr. Akogti emphasized the need for collective action to restore degraded lands and promote sustainable livelihoods.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate on this initiative. This includes government agencies, traditional authorities, development partners, schools, and youth groups.

Mr. Akogti assured that the Builsa North Municipal Assembly is committed to community-led afforestation projects. Plans include supplying seedlings and supporting agroforestry practices.

He also mentioned integrating tree planting into school curricula and civic education programs.

In his passionate appeal for environmental stewardship, he said, “Let us all become ambassadors for restoration.”

He encouraged everyone to plant trees today for cooler temperatures and improved ecosystems.

The ceremony included several dignitaries such as the Municipal Coordinating Director and representatives from various organizations.
