Twenty young women in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, have completed a week-long training program. This program focused on batik and tie-and-dye textile production. It was part of an empowerment initiative by the DA Humanitarian Foundation.
The training took place at the Asogli Palace. Participants included students from Ho Technical University and unemployed women from Ho Bankoe.
The DA Humanitarian Foundation fully funded this initiative. The organization is committed to its mission of empowering communities. They aim to drive sustainable change through innovative programs and partnerships.
Their vision is to transform lives and shape futures. They want everyone to live with dignity and purpose, free from inequality.
Mama Bobi III led the training initiative. She is the Afetornyornufia of Ho Bankoe and a benefactress of the Foundation. At the closing ceremony, she noted that many applied for the program. However, limited resources allowed only 20 participants this time.
She connected the program to Ghana’s focus on job creation through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Mama Bobi stated that TVET skills are marketable and often more lucrative than traditional jobs. She emphasized that women gain power when they control their economic resources.
This training adds to the Foundation’s growing list of empowerment initiatives. So far, over 45 young women have received vocational training in various fields like tailoring and soap production.
Many beneficiaries have started their micro-enterprises, showing how skills can lead to real change.
One participant shared her experience as a recent HTU graduate. She said, “This training has shifted my mindset.” She realized she doesn’t need a formal job offer; she can create her own opportunities. She plans to start a small batik business with a friend she met during training.
Looking ahead, the Foundation aims to establish a permanent training center in Ho. Past beneficiaries will become instructors, fostering ongoing empowerment and sustainability.
Mama Bobi III expressed gratitude to donors and supporters. She urged the public to continue backing the Foundation's mission to uplift vulnerable young women in Ghana.
