E/R: 9-year-old drowns in swimming pool

Police in Koforidua have initiated an investigation into the tragic drowning of nine-year-old Yaa Serwaa, a pupil of Trinity Presbyterian Basic School, who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at Tonyx Hotel on Sunday.

Yaa Serwaa, who had visited the pool with her father and five siblings, did not participate in swimming but stayed at the poolside taking pictures.

Her father later discovered she was missing and was alerted that she had fallen into the pool. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident, which occurred just days after her ninth birthday, has raised concerns about supervision and safety measures at the facility.

Tonyx Hotel management has expressed regret and is cooperating with the police.
