A violent clash in Kraboa, Ayensuano District, Eastern Region, has left two people dead following protests by farmers against sand mining.
Residents, mostly peasant farmers, blocked roads to prevent sand miners from destroying their farms. The protest turned deadly when land guards hired by the sand miners attacked, opening fire on the demonstrators.
One farmer was shot and killed, while another land guard was found unconscious. An eyewitness described how the land guards, led by the local chief, disrupted the community, resulting in multiple injuries.
The Ayensuano District has long faced issues with illegal sand-winning, leading to frequent clashes.
Residents are now calling for government intervention to stop the destruction of farmlands and ensure their safety.
