ECG begins work to improve power supply in Greater Kumasi

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is building a new distribution line. This project aims to improve power supply in Greater Kumasi towns. It falls under the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency.

Currently, 40% of the work is complete. The project will cost GHs2,287,841.31 and finish by the end of 2025.

Ing. George Amoah is the ECG General Manager for Ashanti West Region. He stated that this project creates a new 11kV feeder from Kumasi Asekyem Primary Substation. This will relieve the Kokoben and Ampabame feeders.

Once finished, consumers in several areas will benefit significantly. These areas include Ahenema Kokoben, Trede, Heman, Darko, and others.

The new distribution line involves erecting 85 high-tension poles and installing new conductors. Ing. Amoah emphasized that this project supports quality electricity services for socio-economic growth in Ghana.

He noted significant load growth in the Ampabame area due to ongoing construction projects. This necessitates completing the new distribution line to relieve existing lines and meet future demand.

The project offers several benefits:

1) Reduced system losses.
2) Improved reliability and stable power supply.
3) Enhanced voltage profile addressing low voltage issues.
4) Increased operational efficiency with four different distribution lines.

Ing. Amoah highlighted that this initiative attracts businesses to the region while ensuring customer satisfaction with ECG services.

He also mentioned similar projects are underway across the region to enhance electricity supply for customers.

Customers are urged to avoid illegal connections and pay their bills on time. This helps ECG serve them better through ongoing and future projects.

Additionally, Ing. Amoah encouraged customers to use the cashless payment system via the ECG PowerApp or by dialing *226# before ECG officials visit their premises.
