To combat vandalism of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) installations, ECG Ashanti West engaged artisans in Suame Magazine. This meeting occurred on May 21, 2025, at the Ashanti Regional Association of Garages Office.
The engagement included welders, mechanics, electricians, spare parts dealers, and scrap dealers. They discussed important issues regarding electricity supply in the Ashanti Region. Recent attacks on ECG equipment have caused power outages and financial losses for the company.
Ing. George Amoah, the Ashanti West General Manager, addressed the artisans. He explained how buying or selling ECG equipment as scrap harms power supply. He urged them to help protect ECG installations to improve electricity delivery.
Amoah emphasized that stolen parts disrupt power supply to businesses and homes. He asked everyone to avoid purchasing stolen items and report suspicious sales to the police.
He also announced new projects to improve electricity distribution across the region. Customers were encouraged to avoid illegal connections and pay their bills on time. This will help ECG complete ongoing projects and start new ones.
Customers can use the ECG PowerApp or shortcode *226# for bill payments. Amoah warned against fake meters sold illegally in the region. These substandard meters negatively impact ECG's operations.
He advised customers not to buy meters from third parties but visit ECG offices instead. For reporting outages or damaged equipment, customers can contact ECG at 0302611611 or through social media channels @ECGghOfficial.
Amoah called on the public to report illegal connections and offered a 6% commission for reliable information leading to recovery efforts.
Alhaji Luqman, Chairman of the Garages Association, thanked ECG for their outreach efforts. He requested more engagements with stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
The Ashanti West Region has eight districts: Adum, Ahinsan, Danyame, Kokoben, Abuakwa, Suame, Offinso, and Bibiani.
