Establishing MASLOC office in Bechem is key to socio-economic development – Tano MP

The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, has emphasized the need for a zonal office of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) in Bechem. He believes this office is essential for the socio-economic development of the area.

Currently, residents travel over an hour and a half to Goaso for MASLOC services. This long journey is a significant inconvenience. “Having a zonal office right on our doorstep brings immense relief,” he stated.

On April 30, 2025, MASLOC CEO Mrs. Abigail Elorm Mensah visited a site planned for the new office in Tano South. This initiative is led by MP Charles Asiedu.

Once operational, the Bechem office will serve both Tano South and Tano North Municipalities. It aims to reduce travel burdens and improve access to financial services crucial for local businesses.

The new office will support traders, artisans, and small entrepreneurs with soft loans. These loans will help them expand and sustain their businesses.

MASLOC implements Ghana’s microfinance interventions to reduce poverty through support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Since its start in 2006, MASLOC has provided microcredit and small loans to startups and growing businesses.

This financial support helps these enterprises thrive and create jobs. SMEs are vital to Ghana’s socio-economic development, and MASLOC plays an important role in empowering them.

MP Asiedu noted that Tano South and North are disadvantaged due to their distance from Goaso. Many residents often travel to nearby communities in Ashanti Region for essential state services.

“The presence of the MASLOC office in Bechem will mark a significant milestone,” Mr. Asiedu said. It will enable families in the community to access soft loans easily, boosting local businesses and the economy.

He also mentioned that MASLOC plans to assist local transport operators with vehicles on a ‘work-and-pay’ basis to enhance their livelihoods.

Additionally, there are plans to establish branches of various government institutions lacking offices in the constituency. This aims to improve public access to services.

In her remarks, Mrs. Abigail Elorm Mensah reaffirmed MASLOC’s mission of serving Ghanaians with professionalism and integrity. She confirmed that establishing a zonal office in Bechem would bring services closer to people in Tano South, Tano North, and surrounding areas.

“We remain committed to supporting small enterprises through sustainable microfinance,” she reiterated.
