Excavator operators in small-scale mining have received training. This training focuses on safe and efficient practices for a sustainable industry.
The operators, mainly from the Ashanti and Western regions, learned about soil layers. They also studied sustainable excavation practices.
Excavators are essential tools in small-scale gold mining. However, many operators lack proper training. This can lead to over-digging and inaccuracies.
Over-digging damages land and increases carbon emissions. Pravin Garle, Country Manager for PL International Holdings Gold Coast Limited, noted that everyone operates machines differently. Many learn from others, which may not be correct.
Garle stressed the importance of knowing proper practices. He believes this knowledge can improve machine performance.
Kobelco and PL International organized the technical training through Warnabaid Ventures. Ernest Dabo, Public Relations Officer for Warnabaid Ventures, explained their collaboration with Kobelco. They aim to promote fuel-efficient machinery and teach proper excavation techniques.
Dabo believes this will help miners increase profits without harming natural resources. Mining is crucial to Ghana's economy but can harm the environment if done irresponsibly.
The government is intensifying its fight against illegal mining to protect the environment. Michael Kwadwo Peprah, President of the Concerned Small Scale Mining Association, emphasized collaboration for sustainable mining.
He urged all sector players to work together for environmental protection. Initiatives like this training should be promoted for better practices in mining.
