A devastating fire outbreak on Friday afternoon displaced dozens of residents at Nima-Moke, a slum in Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ashanti Region.
The blaze, which started around 4:30 pm, destroyed over 50 wooden structures serving as homes for residents, predominantly migrants from Northern Ghana. Combustible materials in the area exacerbated the spread.
Many residents were at work or the market during the incident, leaving them unable to salvage their belongings. Numerous families, including children, are now homeless, grappling with uncertainty over shelter.
Eyewitnesses attributed the fire’s rapid spread to delays in the Ghana National Fire Service's response.
This is the second such incident in recent years, with a similar fire in 2020 causing widespread destruction and displacements in the same area.
