Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly extinguished a fire at the Estate Block of the University of Ghana on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The blaze, which broke out around 9 p.m. near Bush Canteen, was brought under control within an hour using four fire tenders.
DOI Alex King Nartey confirmed that the fire, fueled by gaseous substances, destroyed 20 fridges, freezers, and spare parts.
This incident adds to growing fire concerns nationwide, following major outbreaks at Agbogbloshie Market and Kumasi Magazine.
GNFS data shows fire cases increased by 6.43% in 2024, with 5,596 incidents recorded. The cause of the University of Ghana fire remains unknown, but investigations are ongoing.
