First Deputy Speaker commemorates May Day with sod-cutting for twin classroom projects in Akatsi South

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, celebrated May Day by cutting sod for two new classroom blocks. These blocks will be built in the rural communities of Alorkpa and Glikpome.

Mr. Ahiafor was joined by Municipal Chief Executive Daniel Dagba and Municipal Director of Education Karim Ayaana Umar. Their activities were met with joy from residents, traditional leaders, and education stakeholders.

The ceremony at Alorkpa showcased strong community spirit. Chiefs, elders, youth, and opinion leaders gathered to witness this important event. Many described it as a “timely and transformative intervention.”

Amid cheers and traditional drumming, community leaders expressed gratitude to Mr. Ahiafor. They praised his dedication to rural development and education.

The chiefs of Alorkpa also requested urgent help to finish the stalled electrification project in their community.

In response, Mr. Ahiafor instructed the contractor, Mr. Asanka, to return immediately and resume work on the electrification project. This drew applause from the crowd.

Later that day, another sod-cutting ceremony occurred in Glikpome. Residents there were equally excited about the MP’s efforts to improve education.

During his speech, MCE Daniel Dagba stressed the importance of community ownership of the new school blocks. He urged everyone to see these facilities as their own property.

“Let’s preserve it for future generations,” he said.

Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar highlighted how these classroom projects will benefit students greatly. He noted that once completed, they would reduce overcrowding and improve learning conditions significantly.
