Four new MMDCEs sworn into office in Eastern Region

Four Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Eastern Region have been sworn into office. This follows their confirmation under Article 243(1) of the Constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act 2016.

The swearing-in came after confirmation elections by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. These elections were held for assembly members across various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs).

This confirmation is an important step for local governance. It aims to promote inclusive development and improve living conditions in the region.

The newly confirmed MDCEs are:
- Mr. Hakeem Antwi Abdul – Birim North Municipal Chief Executive
- Madam Linda Ahenkora – Akyemansa District Chief Executive
- Mr. Eric Ahinarkwa – Asene Manso Akroso District Chief Executive
- Madam Paulina Akabila – Lower West Akim Municipal Chief Executive

Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, performed the swearing-in at each assembly.

Three out of four MDAs gave a 100 percent endorsement to their nominees. Mr. Ahinarkwa received a two-thirds majority from 31 assembly members present.

In her speech, Mrs. Awatey urged the MDCEs to excel in their duties. They are responsible for daily executive and administrative functions within their assemblies.

She praised voters for their conduct during the electoral process. She also encouraged them to contribute to national development.

The newly approved MDCEs promised to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

The Minister was joined by Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, Acting Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency, and the Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress.
