From isolation to inclusion: MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation brings Easter joy to Weija Leprosariu

The spirit of Easter shone brightly on Easter Saturday. The MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation partnered with PayAngel to support residents of the Weija Leprosarium.

Their theme was “Easter Compassion: From Isolation to Inclusion.”

They donated GH¢50,000 in food, medication, clothing, stationery, and library books. An additional GH¢10,000 in cash was also provided. This gesture went beyond just material support.

Rev. Father Andrew Nii Lante Campbell received the donations with gratitude. He praised the Foundation for their commitment to bridging social divides. Their efforts help restore dignity to those affected by leprosy.

Leprosy, historically known as Hansen’s Disease, carries stigma and isolation. Despite medical advances, many cured lepers still face societal exclusion. The Foundation aimed to change this narrative during their Easter visit.

The usually quiet compound buzzed with joy and laughter. Foundation members dined and shared stories with cured lepers. Some had not felt embraced by society in years.

A young boy exclaimed, “This is the happiest day of my life!” He was rescued from the streets and now lives at the Leprosarium. His face beamed after enjoying Bible quizzes and dance competitions.

Recent data shows two to three million people worldwide live with disabilities from leprosy. Following World Leprosy Day on January 26, 2025, this outreach emphasized ongoing advocacy and support.

One resident pleaded, “Let this not be a one-time visit.” They expressed gratitude for feeling seen again.

For MyHelp-YourHelp Foundation, it marked another chapter in their legacy of compassion. Founded in 2018, they consist of professionals dedicated to uplifting marginalized communities.

Foundation President Nicholas Cofie urged corporate bodies and philanthropists to partner with them for greater impact. “We have a proven track record,” he stated.

PayAngel Manager Delali Kotoka echoed his call for more organizational support for social inclusion initiatives. “We must intentionally help the forgotten,” she said. “That’s what real impact looks like.”
