GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF) has donated 10,000 bags of cement. This donation went to selected schools and hospitals in northern Ghana.
The foundation started in 2002 as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). It aims to help deprived communities improve health and education infrastructure.
Each year, the foundation donates cement to communities across two sectors: Southern and Northern. The Southern Sector includes regions like Greater Accra and Volta. The Northern Sector includes areas such as Upper East and Ashanti.
For the 2024/2025 year, GCF began donations with 21,240 bags for the Southern Sector last month. The Northern Sector received about 10,000 bags.
Since its establishment in 2002, GCF has donated over 725,060 bags of cement. This supports critical projects in Ghana’s education and health sectors.
On May 19, 2025, a donation ceremony took place in Tamale. Dr. Frank Huber, Managing Director of GHACEM, spoke about the company’s commitment to development.
He emphasized that being a nation builder means more than just producing cement. It involves giving back to society and treating workers fairly.
Dr. Huber noted that today’s employees care about purpose and sustainability. GHACEM is proud to lead with values focused on people and the planet.
He announced plans for a new eco-friendly cement product with lower CO₂ emissions soon. This marks a significant step toward sustainable manufacturing in Ghana.
Chairman Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI reflected on why the foundation was created over two decades ago. He noted that companies used to pay taxes but did not give back to communities.
In contrast, GHACEM decided to support the very communities that support their business since 2002. Nana Prah revealed that donations have cost GH₵58 million over the years.
He stressed that this effort is not just for publicity but a moral responsibility. However, he expressed concern about regional disparities in requests for donations.
Nana Prah pointed out that southern regions apply more frequently than northern ones. He called it unacceptable for children to learn in unsafe conditions without proper classrooms.
He urged district leaders and citizens to advocate for equity by applying for support for underserved communities.
Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo from the Foundation said education and health are vital for opportunity. A healthy population leads to a brighter future for Ghana.
She encouraged northern communities to take advantage of GCF's programs by submitting applications and spreading awareness about their work.
“This isn’t just charity; it’s an investment in Ghana’s future,” she stated. She urged everyone to use Ghacem cement and help build a better nation together.
Mr. Frank Antwi Agyapong from GCF stated they had a successful year ending positively in 2024/2025. Looking ahead, he encouraged more institutions to apply for support next year.
There is a dedicated allocation of cement available only through applications. If no applications are received, they assume there is no need for assistance.
Agyapong urged schools and hospitals especially to take advantage of this opportunity. Applications will open again in November 2025; he encouraged all eligible institutions to apply.
