Hohoe: Fire guts NDC communications officer's business centre; he points fingers at 'NPP thugs'

The Hohoe Divisional Police Command is investigating a fire at De-Villa. This popular drinking spot and chop bar is located in Hohoe township.

The fire occurred on Thursday, March 20. Rev. Stephen Tetteh Worwui owns the business and serves as the NDC communications officer for the Hohoe constituency.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui told Myjoyonline.com that the fire likely started outside his office. His office is a metal container used for storage.

He described the damage as severe. The fire spread inside, destroying display shelves, documents, and a computer. Equipment used for music entertainment was also lost.

He noted that all wooden items inside were reduced to ashes. Now, he must count his losses.

Good Samaritans helped put out the fire, preventing further damage. Rev. Tetteh Worwui has closed the business while seeking justice.

He suspects that thugs from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be responsible for the fire. He reported this suspicion to police at their head office in Hohoe.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui mentioned previous threats from NPP youth against him. They said they would "bring me down in this town." This followed an altercation involving a court bailiff and supporters of former MP John Peter Amewu.

The scuffle happened when a bailiff tried to serve legal documents at Mr. Amewu's home. This was related to a court order requiring him to appear in court.

Myjoyonline.com learned that some of Mr. Amewu’s supporters opposed this action, leading to confrontation. The situation escalated into violence with live bullets fired during clashes between NDC and NPP supporters.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui confirmed he was involved in this incident at Mr. Amewu’s residence. He believes the threats from NPP youth are linked to the fire that destroyed his business.

Kafui Agbleze, Volta Regional Communications Officer for the NDC, called for a swift investigation into this matter.

He stated, “We demand nothing but a quick investigation into the issue, and we want justice to be served.”
