A tragic accident at Okanta, a suburb of Kadjebi in the Oti Region, claimed the lives of two teenagers on Wednesday evening when an Immigration Authority vehicle with registration number GI 441, assigned to the Menuso border, collided with their motorcycle.

The victims, a motor mechanic apprentice, and a makeup artist apprentice, were returning home from work.

Eyewitnesses reported that the immigration vehicle, allegedly driven by the Menuso border commander, veered into the teenagers' lane while overtaking another vehicle.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, who set the Immigration Authority vehicle ablaze after heated exchanges with officers at the scene.

Efforts by the fire service to intervene were hampered due to an out-of-service fire truck.

The bodies of the victims have been preserved at the hospital and will be buried on Thursday, December 12, in line with Islamic customs.
