Jerry Yao Ameko has been unanimously endorsed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu District. He received all 19 votes from Assembly members, marking a 100 percent endorsement.
His confirmation signals a new chapter for the district. Mr. Ameko has pledged to drive economic transformation through agribusiness and infrastructure development.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the people of Adaklu. He shared his vision to modernise agriculture, reduce unemployment, and promote economic growth in line with the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy.
**Transforming Adaklu into an Agricultural Hub**
Mr. Ameko highlighted that Adaklu has fertile land and hardworking people. He believes these resources can turn the district into a major agricultural hub. However, he also noted challenges like unemployment and conflicts between farmers and cattle herders.
To tackle these issues, he plans to attract investment in large-scale farming. He aims to promote mechanisation and expand irrigation systems for year-round farming. Additionally, he wants to establish agro-processing industries to create jobs and boost the local economy.
“We will provide financial and technical support to farmers,” he assured. This support will come through public-private partnerships aimed at making Adaklu a leader in agribusiness within the Volta Region.
**The 24-Hour Economy: Job Creation and Youth Empowerment**
Mr. Ameko sees the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy as transformative for Adaklu. He envisions night markets, agro-processing centres, and transport services operating around the clock. He is committed to empowering youth with vocational skills for meaningful contributions to economic growth.
“Young men and women are our backbone,” he stated. “We will leave no one behind.”
**Education and Infrastructure Development**
As an educationist, Mr. Ameko is dedicated to improving educational infrastructure in schools. His plans include equipping schools with modern facilities, motivating teachers, and introducing scholarships for needy students.
He also aims to expand technical training programmes that meet job market demands. On infrastructure, he promises better roads, access to clean water, improved healthcare facilities, and enhanced sanitation across the district.
**Peaceful Coexistence and Conflict Resolution**
Mr. Ameko acknowledges ongoing conflicts between crop farmers and cattle herders in Adaklu. He promises to promote peaceful coexistence through dialogue and policies that protect both parties' interests.
He suggests creating designated grazing lands along with effective conflict resolution mechanisms for harmony within the district.
**A Call for Unity and Development**
He urges all stakeholders—traditional leaders, political actors, civil society organizations—to unite for Adaklu’s development agenda. His administration will remain open to constructive dialogue that propels progress forward.
**Regional Minister Commends Massive Endorsement**
Volta Regional Minister James Gunu praised Mr. Ameko’s unanimous endorsement as significant news for the region. This marks the third such approval following similar endorsements in Akatsi North and Agortime Ziope districts.
He emphasized President Mahama's commitment to developing Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. Mr Gunu expressed optimism about newly confirmed DCEs working diligently towards government goals.
With Mr Ameko leading Adaklu District, expectations are high for transformation focused on agricultural modernization, job creation, and infrastructure expansion.
