Juaboso police arrest suspected armed robber at mining site

The Juaboso District Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber. This occurred during a quick operation at a mining site near Sefwi Kofi Krom. The site is close to Sefwi Proso in the Western North Region.

The arrest was made by the Formed Police Unit (FPU). Inspector Ernest Adjetey led the team on patrol in a service vehicle with registration number GP 644. They responded to a distress call about an ongoing robbery at the mining site.

Upon arrival, officers saw five young men hiding in a nearby plantain plantation. The suspects tried to escape, but police pursued them with help from the complainant. One suspect, 19-year-old Maxwell Awuni, was caught while the others fled and remain at large.

After his arrest, Awuni took police to his home in Sefwi Proso. There, they found weapons and other items hidden in a sack. The recovered items included:

- One Adler/Alpha pump-action gun
- Three single-barrel guns
- One locally manufactured pistol
- Twenty-two live BB cartridges
- Two live 9mm cartridges in a black mini hand pouch
- Two face masks
- One cutlass
- One hand glove

During questioning, Awuni admitted that he and his accomplices attacked the mining site around 8:00 a.m. He said they robbed a victim of gold concentrate, known locally as “black.” He also mentioned plans for another robbery at a nearby site.

Maxwell Awuni is now in police custody and assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to catch the remaining suspects.
