KMA cracks down on drivers failing to reduce transport fares

Randy Wilson, the Head of the Transport Department at KMA, announced new measures.

Police have started enforcing a 15% fare reduction for commercial drivers in Kumasi.

Wilson emphasized that this enforcement is not a one-time event. It will continue to prevent drivers from raising fares arbitrarily.

He noted that commuters are already complaining about overcharging.

“There’s a phone number for complaints,” he said. Many people are calling to report higher charges than agreed.

KMA is compiling these complaints for the police and MTTD. They hope to identify offending drivers within 2-3 days.

Wilson mentioned that additional penalties will be introduced as part of transport reforms.

KMA has established fees for those who violate these rules.

The public is encouraged to report any drivers who overcharge.

“If you’re charged more than the reduced fare, please report it,” he urged.

Provide the vehicle number, route, and fare charged to 0244540238.

KMA is committed to protecting passengers and holding drivers accountable.
