KMA resolves to demolish torched structures at Adum Blue Light arena

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly plans to demolish three buildings in Adum Blue Light. This is necessary for reconstructing the market that burned down a month ago.

The KMA assessed the buildings' structural integrity. They recommended immediate demolition to restore the market.

Kumasi city mayor Richard Boadi denied claims about releasing impounded excavators. He clarified that these excavators are meant for the demolition work.

The buildings include one owned by the KMA and two private ones. Demolition is expected to happen in the coming days.

Mayor Boadi shared details about their demolition plan. "We intended to start at 7 PM and finish by 4 AM," he said. He expressed concern about the higher costs of delaying this process.

While reconstruction efforts begin, some traders are building structures on-site. They claim they want to protect their spaces from being taken over.

Mayor Boadi assured traders of support for rebuilding under KMA supervision. However, he noted that KMA lacks funds for full reconstruction.

“If we seek resources for this project, we may face issues like Krofrom,” he stated.

Additionally, the KMA is considering converting some streets in Adum's Central Business District into temporary trading centers.

Mr. Boadi mentioned upcoming meetings with local authorities regarding this plan. “We will discuss making some streets available for trading activities,” he said.
