Komenda Sugar Factory road will be completed by close of year – Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has made a promise. He assured that the Komenda town road project will be completed by the end of this year. This project has been delayed for nearly two years.

Mr. Agbodza shared this assurance during his tour of road projects in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) Municipality. This visit is part of his familiarization tour across the country.

He acknowledged the country's tough economic situation. However, he emphasized that his office would do everything possible to finish the project. The 5.09-kilometre asphalt road is crucial for access to the Komenda Sugar Factory.

This road also connects to important locations like the Komenda College of Education and local markets. The project began in August 2022 and was expected to finish by August 2023. As of April 2025, it is only 55 percent complete, according to the Central Regional Department of Feeder Roads.

Mr. Agbodza was accompanied by several officials during his visit. These included his deputy, Alhassan Suhuyini, and Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, the Central Regional Minister. They visited Okatakyi Komeh VIII, Paramount Chief of Komenda Traditional Area, before touring other projects.

During this tour, Mr. Abdulai Braimah led discussions about delays in construction. He cited reasons such as funding issues and excessive rainfall affecting progress on site.

The contractor for this project is NMANAB Company Limited. Out of a contract sum of about GHS40 million, they have raised a certificate for GHS20 million but are unsure about payments received so far.

Mr. Braimah mentioned that the completion date had been pushed back to June but requested an additional three months due to ongoing challenges.

He stated that if work continues at its current pace, they could finish in three months. He explained that after laying down certain materials, time is needed for proper curing before final sealing can occur.

Despite these challenges, Mr. Agbodza remains hopeful for timely completion by year-end. He stressed the importance of securing funds to pay contractors promptly.

The Minister directed relevant departments to enhance their supervision over contractors to ensure quality roads are built.

Okatakyi Komeh expressed gratitude for Mr. Agbodza's visit and commitment to fixing their roads. He highlighted how poor roads impact healthcare access and local economies.

Regional Minister Eduamoah found reassurance in the Minister’s visit and promised support for returning contractors to site work promptly.

MP Samuel Atta Mills also expressed enthusiasm about assurances given regarding road improvements in KEEA. He emphasized that good roads are essential for transporting goods between villages and towns effectively.
