The Mampong Traditional Council and the Bretuo Dynasty have informed the Asantehene about the passing of Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
This announcement was made at Manhyia Palace by Mamponghemaa, Nana Agyakoma Difie II. It marks the end of an era for a respected traditional leader.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu served as Vice President of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs. He held the Silver Stool, a position of great significance in the Asante Kingdom.
His role made him second-in-command in the Ashanti hierarchy. He often acted on behalf of the Asantehene in important matters.
Born on December 31, 1939, he passed away at age 86 after reigning for 26 years. Before becoming Mamponghene, he was known as Oswald Gyimah-Kessie.
He was a lawyer and economist and served as Registrar at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu was known for his diplomacy and dedication to his people. His legacy includes decades of service to Ghana’s chieftaincy institution.
The news of his death was formally communicated to the Asantehene at Manhyia Palace. This reflects deep-rooted customs and respect for royals in the Asante Kingdom.
His last public appearance was during Akwasidae at Mampong. There, he rebuked NDC supporters for creating tribal division over an MCE selection issue.
