North Tongu DCE vows to champion development

The people of North Tongu have welcomed a new leader. Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe is now the District Chief Executive (DCE). Her life story is rooted in education, activism, and community service.

Madam Doe is from Mepe and has a strong background in education. Her appointment is significant for gender representation in local governance across the Volta Region.

She has over two decades of experience in Ghana’s educational sector. Her career began in 2006 at Mepe R/C Primary School. She has taught at Keta Senior High Technical School, Chemu Senior High School, and currently at Ada Senior High Technical School as Assistant Director I.

Madam Doe holds an MPhil in English from the University of Ghana. She also has a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Cape Coast. Beyond teaching, she is a mentor and advocate for women’s empowerment.

She has held many leadership roles. These include Chairperson of the Justice and Security Committee and Constituency Women’s Organiser for the NDC. She is known for advocating women's inclusion in decision-making.

During her official assumption of office, Madam Doe expressed her commitment to development. She aims to improve the quality of life in North Tongu. She pledged to support President John Dramani Mahama’s inclusive development agenda.

“I am committed to working diligently with all stakeholders,” she stated confidently. “Together, we will ensure meaningful change for North Tongu.”

Madam Doe identified key sectors needing urgent attention: education, healthcare, water and sanitation, and road infrastructure. She called for unity among traditional authorities and assembly members.

Her development plan includes resettlement for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage. She stressed the need to support displaced families with relief and permanent solutions.

Reviving the Juapong Textile Factory is another priority for her administration. This factory once provided many jobs but collapsed years ago.

She plans to work with relevant ministries to create employment opportunities through this revival. The construction of the Dofor-Adidome Bridge is also on her agenda; it will improve accessibility between communities.

Additionally, she hopes to establish a UHAS satellite campus in North Tongu. This project aims to decentralise higher education and expand academic opportunities locally.

“These projects are lifelines for our communities,” Madam Doe affirmed. “I will prioritise them.”

Beyond politics, she is an active gender advocate with international training in women’s empowerment. She has collaborated with organisations like Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Women Academy for Africa.

As a board member of St. Kizito SHTS, she understands grassroots development's importance well. Her research interests focus on women’s empowerment and quality education as keys to sustainable development.

Madam Doe's confirmation has been welcomed by many in North Tongu. Expectations are high that her leadership will turn promises into real results based on her public service experience.

“Our people deserve better,” she concluded passionately. “With unity of purpose, we can build a thriving North Tongu.”
