Over 750 Liberians were repatriated from Ghana after the demolition of Buduburam refugee camp.

The evacuation, coordinated by the Liberian Embassy and the Ghanaian government, took place on May 21, 2024.

While some evacuees expressed excitement about returning home, others were disappointed.

The Buduburam camp, home to over 6,000 Liberians, was demolished on February 27, 2024, displacing about 600 people.

The demolition, supported by local chiefs and the Gomoa East DCE, Solomon Quarm, was driven by concerns over rising crime. Another batch of repatriations is scheduled for next week.
