Residents of Gbegbeyise and Shiabu in Ablekuma West Municipality can breathe easier as the construction of a five-kilometer sea defense wall officially kicks off.
The long-awaited project, launched on December 2, 2024, follows years of devastation caused by flooding and tidal waves. It comes after a heartfelt appeal by MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who called for urgent government intervention to protect lives and property.
The project, undertaken by Hard Rock Company, aims to curb coastal erosion and restore stability to affected areas. Expected to be completed in 36 months, the government is fast-tracking the timeline to prevent further damage.
“This initiative signals hope for our community’s future,” Owusu-Ekuful said, urging residents to support the project.
