Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi has been nominated as the CEO of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
He is the first person from the Ashanti region to receive this nomination. This announcement comes as the government names heads for various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
Before his nomination, Mr. Boadi supported the Ashanti Regional Minister in overseeing Kumasi's affairs. He previously served as the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi during the NDC administration.
Residents of Kumasi are concerned about slow development in their city. They face delays in completing projects and struggle with filth and congestion in the Central Business District (CBD).
Previous metropolitan chief executives have not effectively managed refuse collection at the CBD and trade hubs. Despite various strategies from past leaders, investments have not improved conditions in the city.
Congestion at Adum and other CBD areas will be a significant challenge for Mr. Boadi if he becomes Mayor. Efforts to reduce vehicle congestion failed after banning tricycles from these areas.
Traders continue to occupy pavements and streets, making it difficult for pedestrians. The second phase of Kejetia Market is also progressing slowly despite promises of timely completion.
If assembly members approve Mr. Boadi as Mayor, expectations for development will be high. Kofi Adams, a TV installer and NDC member, hopes for a strong leader who can enforce laws to improve Kumasi.
He believes that without strong leadership, development may remain elusive for Kumasi residents. A critical test will be supporting traders affected by a recent fire at Adum Blue Light to help them regain their livelihoods.
