Rising homelessness at Circle Interchange poses safety and structural concerns

The number of homeless individuals living under the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra is increasing, raising safety and sanitation concerns.

The area, particularly between Kaneshie Station and the SSNIT Informal Sector, has become a shelter for men, women, and children, leading to littering, open fires, and structural damage to the overpass.

Some squatters engage in open defecation, drug use, and aggressive begging, creating discomfort for commuters. Despite past evictions, they continue to return.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) acknowledges the issue and is awaiting a new Chief Executive before implementing further measures.
